Colors spilled from the joy of spring sunshine.
The word “Punch” originates from the Sanskrit panca, meaning “five.” This blend of five ingredients was brought from India to Europe by 17th-century sailors, eventually becoming the beloved drink we know today.
In Japan’s Meiji era, “Punch” was a sophisticated symbol of modern culture, served at grand balls and the era’s first Western-style hotels. It later evolved into the colorful “Fruit Punch” of the 1920s. Inspired by this history of blending colors and flavors, I created these six shades to bring a touch of “Ukare Punch” (a cheerful, upbeat mood) to your knitting.
春の陽光を混ぜ合わせた「ウカレポンチ」
春の光を浴びて、思わずこぼれ落ちたような色たち。今回のコレクションは、目にも鮮やかなフルーツパンチをイメージした「ウカレポンチ」です。
「ポンチ（パンチ）」の語源は、古代インドのサンスクリット語で「5」を意味する panca（パンチャ）。お酒、砂糖、レモン、水、スパイスの「5つの材料」を混ぜた飲み物がその始まりでした。これが17世紀にイギリスの船乗りたちによってヨーロッパへと伝えられ、世界中で愛される「パンチ」へと姿を変えていったのです。
やがて明治時代、文明開化とともに日本へ。鹿鳴館をはじめ、西洋料理店や華やかな社交の場を彩る「パンチ酒」として親しまれ、大正時代には彩り豊かな「フルーツポンチ」へと進化しました。それは、新しい時代へ胸を躍らせた人々の、モダンな高揚感の象徴でもありました。
複数の色が混ざり合い、ひとつのカクテルのように仕上がった6つの糸。当時の人々が新しい文化に触れて感じた「ウキウキとした気分」を、一目ずつ編み進めてみてください。
